Analysis of physiological and pathophysiological processes in the liver - dr Jerzy Kotlinowski
Studies conducted by our team have shown that mice with a deletion of the Mcpip1 protein in the epithelial cells of the liver develop features of primary cholangitis. The aim of the project is to determine the function of the Mcpip1 protein in the etiology and progression of this disease. We will also determine whether the mouse model we created with a deletion of the Mcpip1 protein in the epithelial cells of the liver can be used to test new therapies for primary cholangitis.
In previous studies, we have shown an important role of the MCPIP1 protein in lipid metabolism. For this reason, we also want to check what functions the Mcpip1 protein plays in the activation and damage of endothelial cells in the pathogenesis of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease.
We are also analyzing the effect of the Mcpip1 protein on the process of liver fibrosis that accompanies many diseases, including primary cholangitis and non-alcoholic fatty liver disease. In our studies we use cell lines (LX-2, H69 cells), mouse primary cells (hepatocytes, hepatic stellate cells), patient material and animal models.
